Heavy Equipment Operator

A Heavy Equipment Operator is a professional who drives trucks to transport goods over long distances. Trucks can be used to transport a wide variety of cargo, ranging from foodstuffs and daily consumer products to construction materials, petroleum products, chemicals and industrial equipment. Duties of a truck driver may include:

1. Perform pre-departure checks to ensure the truck is in good working order.
2. Load and unload goods using equipment such as forklifts or cranes.
3. Drive the truck over long distances while respecting road safety rules and delivery deadlines.
4. Plan routes to avoid delays and obstacles such as roadworks or adverse weather conditions.
5. Manage transport documents and driving logs to comply with regulatory requirements.
6. Perform regular truck inspections to ensure it is in good working order and safe to drive.
7. Communicate with customers to obtain instructions for delivering or picking up goods.
8. Collaborate with loading and unloading teams to ensure safe and efficient handling of goods.
9. Respond to driving problems such as traffic jams, traffic accidents or mechanical problems.
10. Comply with safety rules and standards at all times to ensure the safety of other road users, cargo and the truck.
