Industrial Mechanic

An industrial mechanic is a trained professional who works in the maintenance and repair of industrial machinery and equipment. Industrial mechanics work in various industries such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, agriculture, and the food industry. The duties of an industrial mechanic may include:

1. Perform mechanical repairs on industrial machinery and equipment, such as machine tools, lifting equipment, compressors, pumps and motors.
2. Diagnose mechanical problems using tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, depth gauges, dial gauges and oscilloscopes.
3. Disassemble and assemble machinery and equipment to make repairs or part replacements.
4. Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as lubricating, inspecting and replacing worn parts.
5. Use machine tools to make replacement parts or to make minor repairs to damaged parts.
6. Comply with safety standards at all times to avoid accidents and injuries.
7. Work collaboratively with other professionals, such as electrical mechanics, engineers, and maintenance technicians, to solve complex problems and improve the performance of machinery and equipment.
8. Use computers and diagnostic software to help identify mechanical problems and to plan maintenance tasks.
9. Install new equipment and machinery by performing commissioning tests and adjustments to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
10. Write maintenance reports and data sheets to document the tasks performed and the parts replaced.
